Vicki Monroe's SpiritBlog Archive December 18, 2006 Some questions I often hear this time of year: "Do You Have The Christmas Spirit? Did Santa Claus Really Exist? Is This Really The Happiest Time Of The Year?" Let's start with Christmas Spirit. Many of you have a certain feeling around this time of year, that peace and harmony, if only for a month, a night, or even a day can be obtained; When all enemies lay down their weapons and are silent in their thoughts, pondering the why's and happenings of the year soon to pass. I am that kind of person, I only wish it lasted all year long. I wish for people to find their own inner spirit, it's there all year long, not just during the holidays, when many become so stressed out all they can think about is getting it over with! With so much emphasis on shopping, gifts, and parties, we lose sight of the importance of the holidays, people. People who don't have a place to go, who sit alone during the holidays, thinking about Christmas's past, when they had trees in their living rooms, decorations, and just the joy of being together. My wish for us all is that we find one person, just one, and send them a card, invite them to dinner. Share a piece of your spirit with one who is not so fortunate. Among all the shopping, and wrapping something has been lost, but each and everyone of us has the power to give it back, and bring it back to ourselves. To feel the love of this season of giving, by being kind, compassionate, and loving all year round, not just now. Share yourself with another, take a walk, call someone you haven't spoken to in a while, you may find they need a friend. My point is... lay down your arms, your anger, fear, judgment, and frustrations for one day and be apart of something, if each and everyone single person on the earth could do that can you imagine the shift this planet would make. It's possible, plausible, and most of all attainable, if we all could connect with that inner spirit. Do I believe in Santa? That is what my now 21 year old son asked me the other day, his face scarlett, embarassed that he believed in the spirit of St. Nick. I told him, I have always believed in him, a man of divine love and giving. And that no matter how old the tale is, originating in Europe in the 12th century, and becoming to all cultures someone different, his purpose was still the same, no matter where you came from. He brought good, love, gifts that would bring a smile to a child's face. I think sometimes, that when a child is told that Santa doesn't exist, that is when the magic of Christmas disappears, and it's just another holiday where they can rack up the good stuff. The excitement of possibly seeing Santa, hearing the reindeer on your roof, leaving out cookies and milk as an offering of thanks, those were years of magic to young children, then we find out he didn't exist. Ahhh... but he does. He still exists, the spirit of St. Nicholas has always existed and many have found miracles do occur on Christmas day, gifts where no one had the money to buy them are around a thin, scrappy tree. No one asks how, or who? We remember the feeling of innocence, of surprise and intrigue. So when my 21 year old still says he believes in Santa, or I should say the spirit of him, I say, keep believing, magic is everywhere, and the spirit of Christmas did have a name, St. Nicholas is watching, and for one day, allow yourself to be a child again. My wish for all is that this time of year brings new beginnings, blessings a plenty, love, and happiness. Thank you for sharing your lives with me, for the cards and letters, and most of all the love. I cherish each and every person I meet in this journey, and to all of you, much love and light.
