Vicki Monroe's SpiritBlog Archive March 3, 2007 I want to wish all of you a very Happy St. Patricks day, even if you are not Irish it can be a day you celebrate just to celebrate, to have fun, to lighten up a bit, and to smile more. Little things that we could and if we thought about it should do everyday. This particular blog is about someone I have always considered a fine actress, a bit different and rebelious at times, and also knowing that we never really know why people are the way they are, and what baggage they carry that for some can weigh them down all of their lives. The actor I am referring to is Angelina Jolie, one of my all-time favorite admirable women. I know many would say, "Why didn't Vicki pick Oprah, or Barbara Walters", or so-called regular people, who came from nothing and worked their way dilligently to the top. I do admire them, and their tireless efforts at bringing hope to people. It never took me long when I saw Angelina standing at a press conference holding her new son. Her then-husband Billy Bob Thornton, another fine actor, not with her to know that their marriage was over. Not because of the adoption but they had grown apart as many celebrities do. The story I read talks of Jolie's turn around, change, her complete reversal of the person she was 8 years ago. Filming in different locations she was always touched by the sometimes terrible poverty levels that take a country and turn it into a living hell. She became very interested in organizations that could help these people to help themselves. Not to just give money away....but to aid them in making their own lives better. Yes, money is great... but not if you don't know how to utilize it for the best reasons, and in these areas it would be food, agriculture, water, clothing, hospitals and schools, things that will aid them and change the lives or the parents and children. She is known to have adopted a Cambodian boy, an adorable child she named Maddox, a daughter from Africa, Zahares, and the adorable little girl she and her partner, Brad Pitt, had together, their daughter Shiloh. Now she and Mr. Pitt are in the process of adopting another child, this one from Vietnam. I have heard many talk about people going to other countries to adopt children. Yet what we don't understand is that to adopt in the country is a tremendous challenge, and by the time you get your child, it can have been three years into the process. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT. Why is it so difficult to adopt in this country and for the few that can afford it, it's great, but it can run in cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Yet there are children in foster care, and couples, both straight, gay, grandparents, whomever, that would love a child, isn't that was the whole point of this is. So not only as Ms. Jolie gone from being a rebelous hollywood star, she had turned into one of the biggest advocates for adoption in the world, and will continue her mission to help children everywhere. I am not only a fan, but I believe children deserve a chance, and many are born with none. I have watched Angelina change over the years into an amazing woman of courage and strength, and a compassion I envy. She is a true humanitarian, she lives a quiet life, away from the Hollywood lights, she and Brad raising their children in New Orleans. Every now and then it is interesting to see the transformation of a person. They go from being human to regaining the spiritual side of themselves. The lose their pity party attitude, knowing it will take them no where, and discover there is a world of love and grace that can be given to them, and that we are all capable of this same love. Be it a dog, cat, horse or other animal rescue, you are an angel on earth. You are taking something in to save it. To all of you who have rescued and shared your love unconditionally, I applaud you, Ms. Jolie's story profoundly effected me. Thus she has my admiration, as do all who care more about others than they do themselves. To me they are angels on earth, and you are all apart of it, you all have the ability, love is returned. And when that happens, life is good. In Light, Vicki This website and text copyright © 2007, 2008 Vicki Monroe. All rights reserved. |
